SW Blend Words
A searchable SW word list for blend practice, filterable by syllables and word type.
SW is S into W, as in swing, swim, and swan. The tongue starts at the front for the S and the lips have to round for the W, so two things move at once. A few words here are spelled with su, like suite, because the sounds are what matter.

How to make the SW blend sound
An S blend is two sounds run together with no vowel between them, which is harder than either sound alone. Children often drop the S (top for stop) or insert a vowel (sutop). Clusters usually come together around age 4 to 5, after the individual sounds are stable.

SW blend sound questions
Hold the S with the lips relaxed, then round the lips and turn the voice on for the W. Watch for the lips rounding too early, which turns the S mushy.
