How to make the SP blend sound
An S blend is two sounds run together with no vowel between them, which is harder than either sound alone. Children often drop the S (top for stop) or insert a vowel (sutop). Clusters usually come together around age 4 to 5, after the individual sounds are stable.

SP blend sound questions
Start the S and hold the hiss, then close the lips for the P without adding a vowel in between. Stretching the S first gives the child time to get the lips ready.
