SL Blend Words
A searchable SL word list for blend practice, filterable by syllables and word type.
SL is S into L, as in sled, slide, and sleep. Both sounds use the tongue tip, so the move is less about travel and more about switching the airflow from a narrow hiss to an open L.

How to make the SL blend sound
An S blend is two sounds run together with no vowel between them, which is harder than either sound alone. Children often drop the S (top for stop) or insert a vowel (sutop). Clusters usually come together around age 4 to 5, after the individual sounds are stable.

Hold the S with the tongue tip near the ridge, then press the tip up and let the voice turn on so the air flows around the sides of the tongue for the L.
